William Morris was born in 1834 in the outskirts of London.
He continuously advocated for the natural beauty born from craftsmanship, stating "One should not keep anything they do not find beautiful in their home." He is often referred to as the father of modern design, and his remaining designs and the spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement continues to captivate people around the world to this day.

-KUNISAWA Brewing-

Ryosuke KUNISAWA, the owner first discovered the world of homebrewing during his travels as a backpacker in North and South America in his early twenties. During his trip, he experienced craft beer brewing and felt that beer making was a part of daily life there. Growing up with a passion for craftsmanship, he eventually returned home with the ambition to pursue craft beer brewing, possibly in Shimbashi.

Three decades ago in Japan, revisions to the Liquor Tax Laws marked the dawn of what we now call the Craft Beer Movement. However, for individuals looking to open their own breweries, there were still numerous challenges to overcome. While continuing homebrewing as a hobby, Ryosuke had also taken over his father's printing business. As he pursued his dream of opening his own brewery, he dedicated himself to mastering the craft of manufacturing.

However, since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, there has been a rapid surge towards paperless solutions, placing paper craft businesses in dire straits. When confronted with the pressing need for business restructuring and diversification, the company's refined expertise from the printing industry, combined with a 30-year passion for brewing, led to the creation of KUNISAWA Brewing as a new venture.

Kawachiya Co., Ltd.

Kawachiya has a history that dates back to the late Edo era, when it played a crucial role in transporting iron between Osaka and Edo (present-day Tokyo) by ship. It is said that later Kawachiya relocated to the Edo area and operated a saddlery business near Shirogane. Afterwards, it engaged in various trades such as selling ceramics and dealing in charcoal within the Minato-ku.

As time went by, after the end of World War II, Kawachiya started a business casting typefaces in Shimbashi, and in 1971, it began it's journey as a comprehensive printing company. Currently, as a printing company specializing in bespoke printing processes, Kawachiya collaborates with creative clients such as advertising agencies, graphic designers, photographers, and artists to transform inspirations into reality.

In 2017, the stationery brand KUNISAWA was launched and has since gained popularity in over 20 countries worldwide. In 2022, we launched a new venture aimed at showcasing the spirit of craftsmanship by establishing the first brewery in Shimbashi.

KUNISAWA (Stationery Brand)

The logo of the stationery brand KUNISAWA is inspired by the Yatagarasu, a three-legged crow from ancient Japanese mythology. The three legs of this emblem symbolize sky, earth, and mankind, believed to be siblings born from the same sun. In Japanese mythology, it is believed that Yatagarasu, the three-legged crow, guided Emperor Jimmu through the dark paths of Kumano by emitting a golden light, serving as his divine guide.

At KUNISAWA Stationery, we view this Yatagarasu as a symbol of business persons who illuminate the future with hope and lead the world forward. We have imbued this sentiment into the brand's logo.
